If you bought "Minecraft" on the Windows Store, then no.
"Minecraft: Java Edition" is still supported in Windows 10, so even your PC is running Windows 10, you can all the same cull to play Coffee Edition instead of the main version from the Windows Store.
TLDR; "Minecraft" tin can be played cross-platform, just "Coffee Edition" tin merely be played with "Java Edition."

I haven't tried either, just there are a couple of projects, Protocol Support and Dragon Proxy, that human activity as a proxy/translator to allow Boulder Edition to connect to Java servers.

no nonetheless your frined should have a bedrock central if he bought the game a while ago

No but your friend with java can redeem his costless win10 edition key.
edit: It seems that getting win10 forth with java was canceled a while ago. If he hasn't redeemed it a while back, this is basically a tough-luck scenario m8.

In that location is a server plugin that I know of that would allow you to practise cross-platform play between Java and Boulder. Unless you want to prepare the plugin on a Java server yourself, I'd recommend playing on the Quackity server which is a survival-pvp server with the Bedrock-Java edition crossplay plugin already on at that place.
